Persephone / Kore (We all have darkness)

IMG_20200121_115358_892

Persephone / Kore (We all have darkness) ๐ŸŒธ๐Ÿ’€๐ŸŒธ
She was just an innocent girl before she had become the queen of the underworld, through her abduction by and subsequent marriage toย Hades, the god of the underworld. He tricked her, giving her someย pomegranate seeds to eat in the underworld, so she was obliged to spend a third of each year (the winter months) there, and the remaining part of the year with the gods above.
She’s also the goddess of springtime, flowers and vegetation. So I portrayed Persephone half shining, lit, with pomegranate flowers in the background, and half obscured, in the shade.
I have always been struck and inspired by this contrast between light and darkness.
I think we all have a dark side, even if we hide it.
“Rare” (new single and album too) by Selena Gomez has been an inspiration for my portrait of Persephone: I was listening to it, both when I got the idea and while I was drawing and coloring her.
โœ Realized with: pencils, ink, digital color and Instagram filtrer.
๐Ÿ’€โฌ‡ When did you cross over to the dark side? Do we all have a side we don’t show to anyone? Comment below.โฌ‡๐Ÿ’€

Circe

IMG_20200113_133304_118.jpg
She’s the seductive goddess of magic (or an enchantress or a nymph too).
I know her because of her presence in Odyssey.
She was terrible because transformed men into animals and make them her prisoners. Except one: the astute, cunning, Ulysses who rescued himself and his mates.
How I’d like to possess magical power, like Circe!
But I’d rather use it to help, not for wrongly, arbitrarily punish someone.
Inspiration came, as always, from greek mythology and I often draw magical creatures so I absolutely had to portray this goddess!
I made this drawing with: pencil, ink, digital color and Instagram filtrer.
๐Ÿ”ฎโฌ‡ I want to read “Circe”, a book written by Madeline Miller. Have you already read it? Let me know in a comment.โฌ‡๐Ÿ”ฎ

Icarus (Don’t fly too close to the sun)

IMG_20200110_221500_395 His father, Daedalus, tried his wings first, but before trying to escape the island, he warned Icarus not to fly too close to the sun, nor too close to the sea, but to follow his path of flight.
He ignored his father’s instructions and soared into the sky but when the wax in his wings melted he tumbled out of the sky and fell into the sea where he drowned.
How many times in my life I behaved like Icarus…! I was very stubborn, too much ambitious and I didn’t want to listen anybody’s (especially my parents, who are almost right).
Maybe due to my young age, in the past I practicallyย stumbled on it lots of times.
Well… I learned that is wrong and dangerous to force events or pretend too much from a situation.
Character doesn’t just meanย going your own way.
All in good time, they say.
Sometimes, relationships burn and explode like supernova.
But flying too low is even more dangerous than flying too high, because it feels deceptively safe.
Greek mythology inspires me a lot.
I made this drawing with: pencil, ink, digital color and Instagram filtrer.
๐Ÿ˜‡โฌ‡Have you ever flown “too close to the sun”? Let me know in a comment.โฌ‡๐Ÿ˜‡

Si torna a scuola!

backtoschool2020.jpg

Raccontatemi com’รจ andato il vostro tragicomico ritorno a scuola.
